1. Sexual Assault Resource Center (SARC): Be a part of the solution – Become an advocate today!

Volunteer advocates are often the first line of contact for individuals seeking emotional support, information, resources, and medical and legal advocacy around sexual assault and exploitation in Washington and Multnomah Counties. Advocates provide these confidential services in two ways: (1) telephone response and (2) in-person response at safe locations such as hospitals, police departments and youth shelters.

3. SOLVE: Improve your community at the SOLVE Beach & Riverside Cleanup, Sept. 19

We all love Oregon’s beaches, rivers and natural areas. For over three decades Oregonians have been proving that by volunteering at the annual SOLVE Beach & Riverside Cleanup, presented by the Oregon Lottery. Be part of this volunteer movement, impacting Oregon’s environment, wildlife and communities. It’s an easy, fun way to get outside, meet your neighbors, and make a difference by cleaning up Oregon’s rivers, beaches, parks and trails, removing invasive plants or planting plant native trees and shrubs.

There are over 100 volunteer-led projects across the state for you to choose from, including 46 beach cleanup sites coast-wide. Only you can ensure our beaches, rivers and natural areas are kept clean and healthy. Learn more and get involved today at solveoregon.org. This event is part of the International Coastal Cleanup and National Public Lands Day.

7. Hacienda CDC: After-school tutoring/activities with Youth

We are currently looking for tutors who can help youth grades K-8 with math, science, literacy, and problem solving at our community center sites along NE Killingsworth Street, and one site in North Portland in the Portsmouth neighborhood. Many students do not get such support at home or at school and thus depend on our resources in order to keep up in school. We are eager for tutors of all kinds, and would also love assistance in our soccer program as well as our mental and physical health class for adolescent girls. However, there is room for more! Maybe you have skills in cooking, speaking Spanish or Maay Maay, jewelry making, music, art, wildlife tracking, conflict resolution, teaching emotions, soccer, knitting, ceramics, science, teambuilding games, photography, or are just great with kids.

Volunteers are needed for at least 2 hours a week during programming: Monday-Friday during the school year 2:30-6:00pm. A 10-week minimum commitment is requested. You do not have to be bilingual, but experience with English language learners is always welcome!

Break out your play book and find your whistle! Volunteers are needed for the youth Winter basketball season (November-March). Basketball coaches support our 5th-12th grade boys & girls basketball programs. Coaches are essential to the success of every participant in the youth sports programs. Coaches provide an enjoyable learning environment for youngster’s physical, social and personal development, teach responsibility and commitment, develop sports skills, teach cooperation and positive attitudes toward authority, and provide a fun and enriching experience for all teammates.

Coaches must commit to 2-4 hours working with their team during practices and games in the evenings and on weekends. All activities will take place at the Howard M. Terpenning Athletic Center, located at 15707 SW Walker Rd., Beaverton, OR 97006.
