ACT SAT GRE Test Prep at PCC

“Success is where preparation and opportunity meet.” Life can have a series of unexpected turns, and being prepared makes all the difference. Why? Preparation is key. And when considering college – undergraduate or postgraduate – most students prepare by taking test preparation classes.

What Tests to Expect

Depending on the college you plan to attend, you’ll likely have to take a test that is used to determine admissions. Below are two examples:

GRE

The Graduate Record Examination, or GRE, is a multiple-choice, computer-based, standardized exam often required for admission to graduate programs and graduate business programs (MBA). It tests knowledge and skills associated with analytical writing, quantitative reasoning and verbal reasoning. Taking this test is an important step in the application process if you’re interested in pursuing a master’s, MBA, specialized master’s in business, J.D., or doctoral degree.

PCC Community Ed has a series of GRE test preparation courses that cover the Verbal and Analytical portions of the exam, which include reading comprehension, text completion, sentence equivalence and essay tasks, and the Quantitative sections that cover data interpretation, standard math questions, and techniques for tackling the GRE quantitative comparison. Students also gain pointers on time management, anxiety relief, scoring and test taking.

ACT/SAT

The American College Testing (ACT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) are entrance exams for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. They are multiple-choice, pencil-and-paper tests administered by ACT, Inc. and the College Board (SAT). The exams measure a high school student’s readiness for college, and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants, and provide schools and districts with the data necessary to position students for success after high school.

PCC Community Ed offers preparation courses for the ACT and SAT that cover the Verbal portion, which includes preparing for the reading, English and science sections of the ACT and the critical reading and writing sections of the SAT. They also cover the Math portion, which reviews all the math topics covered on both exams in the areas of arithmetic, algebra, functions, geometry, trigonometry and basic statistics. Both courses teach test tips and tricks, time-saving techniques and ways to lower anxiety.

Preparing for these important exams in advance allows students to feel confident in the test material and their ability to achieve a good score. With proper preparation, they will also learn tips and tricks for taking these exams with ease.
