Cascade Gallery presents Matthew Litteken’s paintings and installations exploring and critiquing consumerism. Litteken borrows iconographic graphic design of U.S. currency and employs artistic notions of color and design theory through traditional media of paints and non-traditional materials like dryer lint. Elements of eye-popping colors, provocative textures and fanciful patterns seduce the viewer. At the same time, meanings tied to capitalistic symbolism along with the ephemeral nature of installation disrupt and challenge values tied to our consumer-based existence. Matthew Litteken is a painter and art educator. He is an art faculty member at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Litteken’s work is collected and has been exhibited around the country, and this is his first solo exhibit on the West Coast. Learn more at matthewlitteken.com.
