Statement from the Artist: Kurt Kemp

Issues and reflections on family, religion, politics and music are the sources and the beginnings of my imagery. Although often dark and introspective, I believe that humor and absurdity play a powerful role in the pictures. Through the particular technical methods in the intaglio process my images are allowed to change or “unfold” during the everyday making of them. The narrative can move by shrinking or expanding and the work than takes on a history for me. I would hope that this history along with the formal, technical, and emotional context can move the viewer \to spend some time with the stories being told.
