The aim is to bring together in a single gaze various different moments of the gaze. The results is a mechanism similar to what is in music we call polyphony…It seems to me that anyone who wants to communicate an idea of what is happening in his or her mind at any time can only do so by way of a cacophony of dissonant elements. Freeman’s American Pastoral is a body “living pictures” created over the last 5 years. Employing literature, history and fine art in non linear narratives, American Pastoral, connects to the Phillip Roth novel, of the same name, in its exploration of the underlying, inert and calm violence of America.
