Cascade Gallery presents recent ceramic sculpture, charcoal drawings, and imagery produced using mobile apps by artist Joe Batt. In the Cloud celebrates traditional processes of art making and is a meditation on the expanding continent of WiFi technology and digital devices in our contemporary culture. In this installation of figurative, hand-formed clay sculptures and large-scale, hand-drawn gestural renderings, children and objects visually collide creating a whimsical and thought-provoking space in which to contemplate impacts of our Digital Age.

Joe Batt teaches art at South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia, Washington, and he has been exploring the use of apps, digital drawing tablets, and other digital media in his classes and in his artwork. He received his MFA in Ceramics from the University of Montana, Missoula. Joe has exhibited extensively in the Pacific Northwest, and this is his first solo exhibition in Portland, Oregon.
