Sylvania Creates! Spring 2018 Begins Thursday, May 31st

Our 2nd annual celebration of the arts at Sylvania begins this week with the opening of our student art show and our spring dance concert.
This Thursday (5/31) at 2:00 pm in the Northview Gallery (CT building), Flourish: The Sylvania Student Art Exhibition, juried by artist Debra Beers, opens with a special welcome by our President Lisa Avery and the student award ceremony. Refreshments provided.
Then Friday night (6/1) at 6:30 pm in the Little Theater (CT 201), the Sylvania Spring Dance Concert premiers featuring work by the PCC Dance Performance Class, Hip Hop, Ballet, Ballroom, BodyVox JAG and more! $5-15 sliding scale tickets available at the door. Proceeds go to the PCC Sylvania Dance Program.
Sylvania Creates continues next week with events including a collaborative Sumi Ink Project, Inflatable Art, Silkscreen demos and projects hosted by the Maker Lab in the PAC Courtyard. There will also be a student driven Photo Fest, performances, artist talks, artist demos, and metal casting, along with Learning Garden and Maker Lab tours going on throughout the week.
Our signature event, the interdisciplinary Creative Writing / Visual Art Extravaganza, takes place next Thursday (6/10) from 11:00 – 1:00 in the PAC Lobby. Last year we featured the poet Shayla Lawson and this year, we are proud to welcome poet Robert Lashley. The Thursday event will also feature work by faculty artists and an art / writing collaboration, student and faculty readers, student-made broadsides, the launch of Alchemy, our art and literature magazine, along with a tribute to Ursula K. Leguin.
