ALCHEMY Cover Winners for 2019 Announced
Van Wheeler
Each year, Alchemy (Sylvania’s student-run magazine of literature and art) enjoys the support of a graphic design class. Daniel Soucy’s talented class presented an engaging array of designs to our student and faculty voting panel, and below are this year’s winners:
Third place, Will Roscoe Chalmers:
[Judges noted the pleasingly subtle shifts of color shades, and the shared structure of earth and sky]
2nd place goes to Rosa Phan:
[A clever, funny play on the idea of alchemy as transformation]
And 1st place, this year’s Alchemy cover, was made by Janelle Hammerstrom:
[This world resembles our beloved northwest, but with flourishes of unexpected color combinations]
Please look for copies of Alchemy (entering its 45th year!) with this cover at the end of Spring term.
If you’d like to join us for the release party, save the date of Thursday, June 6th, when we’ll celebrate
Sylvania Creates! with readings, arts, concerts, and more.
Thank you to all who submitted, and congratulations to our winners!
