2018 Betty & Richard Duvall Scholarship Recipients
Posted by mariah.cisse
The Betty and Richard Duvall Professional Development award is dedicated to supporting full-time faculty in the pursuit of their professional goals to bring learning and innovation into the classroom.
Jim Schneider – Chemistry
Jim would like to build upon successes from his sabbatical in 2015-16 in which he pursued further knowledge in nanotechnology principles and education outreach. He would like further development in this area because these types of experiments allow students to connect with cutting edge science and possibilities for employment in a nascent field. The funds would cover costs for resources including research materials, and travel and equipment time (for example, electron microscope at PSU).
Blake Hausman – English, Reading and Writing
Blake will be using the funds to support his professional development related to Native American Studies. Specifically, to travel to neighboring institutions to engage faculty in order to facilitate a greater understanding of regional resources and processes for Native language revitalization and instruction at public colleges. One of the new NAS courses is NAS 202, Teaching and Learning Native American Languages. This course requires the instructor to help students identify resources for studying Native languages and to connect students with both recorded and human resources
