Fall 2018 Professional Development Opportunities

POD will be hosting several professional development opportunities this fall with facilitator Rachel Falk. Please sign-up for these sessions using the Fall 2018 Professional Development Opportunities Google form.

The sessions scheduled are:

Discover What You Do Best with Strengthsfinder

  • Date and Time: Wednesday, October 24, 2018 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
  • Location: Sylvania Campus, Health Technology 317
  • Course Description: This workshop builds on the work of the Take Charge of Your Career curriculum that used Appreciative Inquiry and Positive Psychology principles. Participants will walk out of class identifying their top strengths and an ability to speak (and write) with specificity about their strengths. This is excellent prep for anyone about to consider a job search and/or go on an interview. It is also a great precursor for working on an individual career development plan.

Resume Workshop

  • Date and Time: Wednesday, November 7, 2018 from 1:00 -2:30 pm
  • Location: Cascade Campus, Technology Education Building 215
  • Course Description: This is a 90-minute nuts and bolts workshop where you will learn best practices for resume writing and have time to make updates to your resume during class.
    • Learn the basics to advanced strategies that help your resume stand out.
    • Practice writing accomplishment statements that emphasize the specific value you bring to the workplace.
    • Get feedback from peers on accomplishment statements.
    • Gain understanding of HR hiring processes and what recruiters look for in a resume.
    • This class will be in a computer lab so come prepared with your resume in a digital file so you can work on updating and editing during class.

Interview Skills Workshop

  • Date and Time: Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 1:00 -2:30 pm
  • Location:Southeast Campus, Mt. Scott Hall 201
  • Course Description: This is a 90-minute nuts and bolts workshop where you will learn how to best prepare for an interview so you stand out from the competition.
    • Learn some of the most common questions asked in interviews and draft answers.
    • Practice examples of case-based and behavioral-based interview questions.
    • Gain confidence with mock interview practice with peers.
    • Learn tips and tricks to reduce nerves so you can perform at your best.
