NISOD Faculty Scholarship, Student Contests and Excellence Awards
Posted by matt.coleman1
The Office of Professional & Organizational Development sponsors PCC’s membership to the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD); a membership organization that promotes and celebrates excellence in teaching, learning, and leadership at community and technical colleges.
Student Contests
Our membership also presents the opportunity for our students to apply for the Scott Wright Student Essay Contest and the Student Graphic Design Contest. Winning students receive $1,000, travel to the annual conference in Austin, Texas in May, and international recognition for their work! As you may know, one of our students, Sofia Velasquez, wrote an award winning essay last year highlighting the support and encouragement she received from PCC faculty member, Teela Foxworth (Communication Studies).
Excellence Awards
Another benefit of our membership is the opportunity for PCC employees to nominate staff, faculty and administration for outstanding accomplishments in advancing our overarching institutional goals.
Nomination
Nominations should be for PCC employees you feel are doing extraordinary work on their campus/center or across the college and whose actions support and advance PCC’s Mission and the President’s Work Plan (see the President’s Work Plan 2018-21 attached for more information).
- Please complete and submit the nomination form electronically no later than February 1, 2019.
- All candidates should be nominated based on contributions made while employed at Portland Community College.
- The nominations will be reviewed by a committee and ten nominees will be selected to receive the award. All nominees will receive an honorable mention.
- Please do not submit directly to NISOD as they will only accept nominations received from the NISOD Liaison (POD).
Recognition
All recipients of the NISOD Excellence Award will:
- Receive an Excellence Award Medallion and personalized certificate (suitable for framing)
- Be listed in the NISOD Excellence Awards booklet and featured on the awards web page
- Have an opportunity to have their photo and a personal statement displayed on kiosks throughout the conference center
- Be featured in the POD newsletter and website through a college-wide announcement
Additionally, two recipients will receive funding from the POD office to attend the NISOD International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence, May 25-29, 2019, in Austin, Texas!
- The selection of the two recipients will be based on the committee’s recommendation of which nominations best meet the award criteria and demonstrate excellence in teaching and leadership.
