2020 Betty & Richard Duvall Scholarship Recipients
Posted by matt.coleman1
The Betty and Richard Duvall Professional Development award is dedicated to supporting full-time faculty in the pursuit of their professional goals to bring learning and innovation into the classroom.
The 2020 recipients of the Duvall award are:
Jessica Bernards, Mathematics, Rock Creek
Jessica plans on using the funds to help purchase new technology to enable her to create curriculum and instructional videos for a flipped calculus classroom similar to the successful flipped classroom curriculum she co-created for MTH111 and MTH112 which are now used across the district.
Andrew Garland-Forshee, Department of Child and Family Studies, Sylvania
Andrew will use the funds to help offset the cost of a trauma specific mindfulness training he would like to take to help him develop a mindfulness practices “toolkit” for faculty to use in HUS and ECE courses to try to avoid future burnout among Early Childhood Education and Family and Human Services practitioners.
Emiliano Vega, Mathematics, Cascade
Emiliano plans to use the award to partially fund attending the National Science Foundation’s Academy of Inquiry Based Learning workshop in Washington D.C. to learn about student focused learning. Unfortunately, because of COVID-19 he will not be able to attend this year. His hope is to go next June or whenever the next face to face event occurs.
