PCC Transfer Students Excel

The Oregon State System of Higher Education recently released figures on the academic performance of community college transfer students. The data is taken from grade point averages at the end of spring term 1995.

It shows that PCC transfer students do slightly better than students who start at the state four-year schools, and than all other Oregon community college transfer students.

The information is derived from community college students who transferred fall term 1994 to Oregon’s four-year schools. Two terms later, 44.9 percent of all PCC transfer students had a GPA of 3.0 or better, compared to 43 percent of students who started at four-year schools, and 44.3 percent for all Oregon community college transfer students.

"We’re extremely pleased with these findings," said Don McInnis, vice president of PCC’s Educational Services. "It demonstrates that we are preparing students well for upper-division course work."

Another finding shows that PCC students are well represented in the Oregon State System of Higher Education. Fall term 1994, 32.1 percent of Oregon community college students who transferred to Oregon’s four-year schools were from PCC.

Most transferred to PSU. It received 76.2 percent of PCC’s transfer students; 9.8 percent enrolled at OSU; and 8.3 percent enrolled at the U of O.

Community college students who had the Oregon Transfer degree performed better than those who did not.
