Great Music – Great Performances III

Rock Creek – Music is a world all its own. Enter the land of the great conductors the latest 10-week installment of the Great Performances music appreciation series, Great Music – Great Performances III, at Portland Community College Rock Creek Campus beginning Tuesday, April 1.
Instructor Peter Hirsch will lead a look at symphonic music in all its forms: Multimedia will be used to hear, see, and review the work of great conductors, the range of their work, and the special qualities which made them great.
Class meets weekly on Tuesday evenings from 6:15 to 9:45 p.m. in Building 3, Room 122, through June 3. Tuition is $87.50. PCC Rock Creek Campus is located at 17705 NW Springville Road.

Explore Oregon’s Pacific Gateway Town
Rock Creek – Join a guided tour of Astoria – its local museums and historic homes, including lunch at the Victorian Flavel House – on a day-long excursion, Saturday, April 12.
Co-sponsored by Portland and Clatsop community colleges, the tour will explain why Lewis and Clark settled in Astoria, why the Columbia River bar is the most treacherous in North America, and explore nearby Fort Clatsop.
An information session on Thursday, April 10, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Portland Community College Rock Creek Campus, will precede the tour of historic Astoria on April 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The information session will meet in Building 3, Room 114; the Saturday tour will begin at the Heritage Museum in Astoria.

Anger is Our Friend
Rock Creek – Do you fly off the handle? Or bottle everything up? Mishandling your anger is not only unhealthy, it can prevent you from achieving goals at work or at home.
But in the one-day seminar I’m So Angry! on Saturday, May 17 at Portland Community College Rock Creek Campus, you can learn techniques and coping mechanisms that will enable you to break through old habits and create less to be angry about. Instructor Peg L. Olsen will lead the seminar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Building 7, Room 103.

Bending the Piano Strings for Fun
Rock Creek – From Scott Joplin to Vladimir Horowitz to Jerry Lee Lewis, piano playing never sounded easy. But you can learn to play the way the pros do in NO-PAIN Piano Workshop, a one-evening seminar on Friday evening, April 18, at Portland Community College Rock Creek Campus.
This beginning course, led by Jim Templeton, will use chords and solid musical concepts for the casual piano player, so you can play any pop tune with both hands. Ability to read treble clef is recommended.
Tuition is $25 plus $22 for tape and workbook fee payable at class. Class meets in Building 3, Room 122, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Rock Creek Campus is located at 17705 N.W. Springville Road.
