PCC Theater Students Present "Festival of One-Acts"
Photos and story by Mark Evertz
Students of the Portland Community College Theater Arts Department will perform "Festival of One-Acts," a group of plays written and produced by 16 students, in mid-April at the PCC Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave.
The plays are "Lost," in which three shallow characters question what happens when people can’t say what they mean or mean what they say. "Lost" was written by Melinda McCamant, a Dundee resident, and directed by Kate Dulin of Lake Oswego. Against the background of an archeological dig, "To Tell the Truth" focuses on some timeless, powerful realities. It was written by Orpha Harryman Barry and directed by Korey Jones.
"They Took the Music" is a supernatural thriller (in the mode of "The Twilight Zone") about an artist’s creation gone awry. The writer was Simone Fisher and the play was directed by John Pennington. The last play of the evening, "Blue," is performed by interns of the PCC Television Services department under the direction of Eric Kirsten, a Tualatin resident and Television Services staff member.
Participating students worked on set construction and set changes for all the plays as well as acting in their own productions. Set design is by Dan Hays, coordinator of theatre operations. PCC lighting design students joined members of the cast and crew in providing all technical assistance.
Performance dates are April 17, 18 and 19 at 8 p.m. in the Little Theater in the CT Building at the Sylvania Campus. The suggested donation for tickets is $3. The box office will be open for reservations the week of April 14 to 18 from 1 to 5 p.m. On performance evenings it will also be open from 7 to 8 p.m. The box office number is 977-4848.
