PCC Class Offers Integrated Approach to Fitness
Photos and story by Mark Evertz
PORTLAND – If the "Feel it Burn" approach to fitness is burning you out, Portland Community College has a class for body and mind fitness starting on Sept. 21 at its Sylvania Campus.
Body in Balance uses the conditioning model based on exercises developed by Joseph Pilates, the German gymnast known as a pioneer in the fitness movement. PCC instructor Diana LoVerso says the Pilates method will lengthen and stretch muscles, develop core strength and stability and deepen breathing. This type of conditioning has also been known to improve posture, balance, body alignment, physical and mental focus, and relieve tension.
LoVerso, a dance instructor at PCC, will lead the class on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1 to 1:50 p.m. in the HT Building Room 101. For information on how to register for the one-credit course, contact LoVerso directly at 977-4043.
