PCC Foundation Announces New Scholarships

The Portland Community College Foundation has 12 new scholarships for the upcoming 1998-99 school year that will be available to help students go to college. These new scholarships total $83,125, and could assist as many as 50 students.

"Private donations are absolutely critical to our ability to provide help to our students, almost half of whom need financial help to stay in school," said Jan Coulton, executive director of the Foundation. "Many of the students who can benefit the most from PCC cannot afford even PCC’s low tuition. These new scholarships will help ensure their educational future."

The largest scholarship comes from Intel Corp., a $13,000 donation to help students in the Microelectronics Technology program.

Other scholarships include Computer Information Systems for students in the CIS program, the Credit Association of Portland for students in Business Administration, an Engineering scholarship, donated by CH2M Hill for students majoring in engineering, the Ethyl Hanson scholarship, and the Bill Hildebrand Memorial for students in Auto Collision Technology.

Additional new scholarships are the Monroe Jacobs Memorial for Aviation Maintenance Technology students, the Betty Kendall scholarship for students in Automotive Service Technology, the Seaberry-Stokes scholarship for minority students majoring in education and enrolled at Cascade Campus, the Keith Skelton scholarship for students enrolled in any PCC degree program, and the Welding scholarship for Welding Technology students.

Of the 12 new scholarships, five are endowed, which means the scholarships are self-perpetuating and are funded by the dividends and interest generated from the principal.

The PCC Foundation is the private fund-raising arm for the college and is a tax-exempt charitable organization. Of the donations received, 100 percent goes to support the program for which it is intended. Please call 977-4374 for more information.
