Career Development Institute Busy This Spring

The Institute for Health Professionals is offering an especially lively spring term this year. Three major conferences are available for professionals in several health disciplines.
The Portland Community College program provides professional development and continuing education for a wide variety of health professionals, according to Judy Harris, institute director. "The institute has gained the reputation of being one of the leading continuing education providers for health care professionals," she said. "Our instructors are experts in their fields with excellent reputations in the community. We pride ourselves in developing post graduate level programs that are relevant, timely and educationally sound."
"Physician Aid in Dying: Counseling Clients" is designed especially for mental health professionals who counsel patients requesting physician aid in dying. This continuing education course runs April 23, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Central Portland Workforce Training Center, 1626 S.E. Water Ave., for $99.
"Juvenile Violence: Symptoms and Solutions" brings health professionals together with police and social service agencies for a day-long exploration of how a local community can respond effectively to youth crime. Steve Nawojczyk, a national expert and recognized authority on crime prevention will be featured in the morning. This workshop, co-sponsored with Multnomah ESD departments of School Health Services and Alternative Education, runs April 24, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Central Portland Workforce Training Center, 1626 S.E. Water Ave., for $49.
"Revolutionizing Behavioral Health Care: Interfacing with Clinical Practice" offers hands-on practice applying the Internet as a research tool, using computer software to make cost effective decisions and more. National speakers Tom Trabin, Larry Rosen, and Michelle Weil will be the keynote presenters. A joint effort with Lewis and Clark College and The Northwest Frontier Addiction Technology Transfer Center, the conference runs May 28 and 29, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Lewis and Clark College, with an on-site registration fee of $289.
