PCC Theater Arts Students Take on Bogosian's "Suburbia"

PORTLAND – A theater adaptation of the slice-of-mundane-life film "Suburbia" is the latest undertaking by Portland Community College’s theater arts students on May 8, 9, 15 and 16 at the PCC Sylvania Little Theatre, 12000 S.W. 49th Avenue.

The Eric Bogosian feature film won critical praise for its frank dialogue and the retooling of well-treaded subject matter. Teen angst, envy and apathy are played out with renewed vigor in the curious, yet appropriate setting of a convenience store parking lot.

Clive Barnes of the New York Post called the film "ambitious stuff," and said "the brave ending has an unexpected twist leaving the air suffused with tragedy. Yes, a must-see."

Suffusing the air with tragedy on stage will be PCC students Kevin Vaughn, Shahab Akhtar Rao, Adam Moore, Jacob Carey, Jeremy Davidson, Geeta Prasad, Sara K. Martin Michelle Baerncopf and Jenny Cooper.

Curtain for the performances is 8 p.m. Tickets are $6 for general admission and $5 for seniors and students. They can be purchased at the PCC Sylvania Campus Bookstore during regular hours or at the box office on the evening of performances. Or make reservations by telephone 977-4949.
