Summer Session at PCC Fires Up Monday

PORTLAND – A hot summer is slated at Portland Community College, as classes get underway Monday, June 22 at all three main campuses and training centers.

As of the week before the start of classes, enrollment for summer term college-wide is up substantially over last year at this time, according to the college’s Institutional Research Department. For up-to-date enrollment numbers, check the Institutional Research Department web page at www.pcc.edu/ir.

Students heading to PCC this summer are exploring everything from the arts to technical programs; while others are heading to class to get jump on next year in accelerated credit opportunities available throughout the PCC service district.

Some offerings generating heat at PCC include:
Sylvania Summer Institute in the Visual and Performing Arts One-, two-, and eight-week art workshops are available at the Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave., on subjects such as calligraphy, photography, ceramics, sculpting, welding and more. Also available is the class, Music at the Movies, featuring great 20th century composers, and the class, Agents and Acting, for those looking to break into commercial acting. The credits available and the length of the workshops vary.
Web Design and Administration Don’t just surf the World Wide Web, be the World Wide Web, with Web Design and Administration. Learn MS FrontPage ’98, MS Visual InterDev Website Design, JavaScrip, Java and more. Credit classes are available at the PCC Washington County Workforce Training Center, 18624 S.W. Walker Road in Beaverton, the Central Portland Workforce Training Center, 1626 S.E. Water Avenue, and the Southeast Center at 8250 S.E. 82nd.
Biotechnology classes are available this summer at the Rock Creek Campus,17705 N.W. Springville Road. Cram an entire year’s worth of classes in the biotech program into one summer session and start on year two this fall.

Available this summer at PCC Cascade are several classes to aid educators before they head back in the fall, a Documentary Screenplay Writing course for the aspiring scribe, and much more.
