PORTLAND – Portland Community College and Maricopa Advanced Technology Education Center (MATEC) in Tempe, Ariz., are co-sponsoring the Fourth Annual Advanced Technological Education in Semiconductor Manufacturing Conference at the Portland Hilton on Aug. 3-6.

Conference activities include workshops, paper presentations, exhibits and opportunities to network with people in the industry from around the world.

David Hata, PCC Microelectronics Technology department chair and conference co-organizer, said each year the conference has been able to boast of high attendance numbers. This year’s conference is expected to bring in more than 150 high-technology professionals and educators from the high school through university level to rub elbows, talk shop and learn.

"It’s an opportunity to network, share experiences and get to know one another," said Hata.

The conferences have been funded by a National Science Foundation grant secured by Hata four years ago. This will be the final conference under that grant, but Hata said the conference will continue under the leadership of Maricopa Community College’s Mike Lesiecki, who received a National Science Foundation grant to continue the program.

Hata added that the PCC and Maricopa partnership in planning the conferences and spreading like programs to other campuses will continue despite the grant changing hands.
