Photos and story by

The PCC-affiliated Senior Studies Institute (SSI) is kicking off its fall term with course offerings in religion, science, current events, Oregon women who have made a difference, and more at the Washington County Workforce Training Center (WCWTC) in Beaverton. The WCWTC is located at 18624 S.W. Walker Road.

The senior citizen-run, -taught and -attended classes are meant to give seniors a chance to exercise their minds and interact without the stress of tests or assignments. Classes held at WCWTC are every Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon on various dates throughout the term, starting Sept. 16.

The classes at WCWTC are as follows:

Current Events, Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 16.

Women Who Made a Difference, Thursdays, Sept. 17 and 24.

A Science Odyssey, Thursdays, Oct. 1, 8 and 15.

Comparative Religions, Thursdays, Oct. 22 and 29; Nov. 5, 12 and 19.

Medicine: Matters of Life and Death Thursday, Oct. 1.

And more!

"This program is one that gets senior citizens excited," said SSI Director Neal Naigus. "They are excited because not only are they participating in something, they have a hand in creating it.

"These are articulate, intelligent people who have a lot to offer each other," added Naigus, "and they do."

Several other classes in various disciplines are also available at locations in Southeast Portland, Southwest Portland and at the PCC Central Portland Workforce Training Center near OMSI.
