"Equus" Hits the Stage at PCC in Mid-November
Photos and story by Mark Evertz
Portland Community College student actors will take on the complex story of a troubled youth, his propensity to blind horses with a metal spike and the psychiatrist who tries to make sense of it all, during the six-day run of "Equus" at the Sylvania Campus’ Performing Arts Center beginning Nov. 12.
"Equus" is the story of Alan, his developing relationship with a psychiatrist, and the journey both take in attempting to understand why Alan is so troubled. Through a series of flashbacks, the audience learns that Alan’s upbringing at the hands of a fanatically religious mother and an atheist father, coupled with television-fueled opinions on sex and violence and the general feeling of being an outcast in society has helped shape him into the boy he is today.
Tim O’Halloran plays Dysart, the psychologist, while the role of Alan is played by Jacob Carey. The supporting roles of Alan’s mother and father are played by Kate Ni Cheallaigh and Adam Jones. Several other PCC students also have parts in the production.
Performances for "Equus" are scheduled for Nov. 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21 at the Performing Arts Center, which is located at the Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave. All performances are at 8 p.m. Tickets for the play are $6 for general admission and $5 for seniors and students. They can be purchased at the Sylvania Campus Bookstore, or at the PAC box office prior to a performance.
