Senior Studies Institute Gears Up for Spring

Photos and story by

Portland Community College’s Senior Studies Institute (SSI) will offer a number of courses for interested seniors this spring at the college’s Workforce Training Center at the Capital Center in Hillsboro at 18624 N.W. Walker Road (the corner of 185th and Walker Road.

The SSI is a unique program for older adults who want to expand their horizons and connect with others. SSI offers learning in a pressure-free atmosphere. No grades, no bell curves, no test, no compulsory attendance: The only one you compete against is yourself.

And there is no formal faculty. SSI members with a passionate interest in their subjects share it with fellow members and everyone learns. The best benefit may be the people you will meet.

Members pay a $30 annual fee, but anyone may attend two times on a trial basis.

The courses this spring are:
Current Events, Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon, March 31 to June 2
We Did the Work, Thursdays, 10 a.m. to noon, April 1-15
Toys for Grandparents, Thursday, 10 a.m. to noon, April 22
Dean of Rock Creek Campus, Thursday, 10 a.m. to noon, April 29
