Photos and story by

Portland Community College continues its climb up the list of Community College Week’s top 100 associate’s degree producers in the United States. After a decent showing of 60th on last year’s list, PCC moved up two slots, to 58th in the national publication’s July 12 issue. There are approximately 1,200 two-year community and technical colleges in the United States.

PCC, the only Oregon community college to make the list, had 1,079 degrees conferred in the year 1996-97, the most recent data available for the report.

Miami-Dade Community College in Florida was

once again the top community college in degrees conferred, with 5,533.

PCC also placed in the Community College Week top 50 associate’s degrees conferred for Asian-American students. The college came in 36th, with a total of 124 degrees during the 1996-97 school year.

The data for the report is from information compiled by the U.S. Department of Education. This year’s list marks the seventh year Community College Week started tracking and reporting on such figures.
