It is not too late to register at Portland Community College for spring term classes which begin Monday, March 27. PCC, closed for spring break during the week of March 20-24, has its spring term class schedule out and the college is accepting registration for classes. Students may sign up for classes by logging onto the Internet at www.pcc.edu, or by calling the touchtone telephone registration line, 503-977-5000. Also, students can register by contacting the admissions departments at any of the four locations: Sylvania (503-977-4699), Rock Creek (503-614-7270), Cascade (503-978-5282), or the Southeast Center (503-788-6252).
To help out that special somebody, PCC Tuition Bucks are available to give a soon-to-be student a head start on the tuition bill. Gift certificates can be purchased in $10, $25 and $100 packages. Tuition Bucks can be used for any PCC class and are easy to order, using VISA or MasterCard, by just calling 503-533-2882.
Once again, PCC is becoming more and more popular with people in the community. The total headcount of the college for winter term 2000 expanded to 37,226, an increase of 3.9 percent from last year. Also, the full-time equivalent (FTE) jumped to 5,778.91, an increase of 4.2 percent.
Besides its thousands of classes, this spring PCC will celebrate by opening its doors to the first ever community fair, Saturday, April 15, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the college’s Rock Creek Campus off the Sunset Highway at N.W. 185th and Springville Road. The event is free and open to all. There will be hands-on demonstrations of career programs, tips from master gardeners, free pet exams, nature walks, children’s theater productions, jazz, pops and stage bands. Want to know more? Call 503-977-4374.
Later this spring, PCC shines the spotlight on the arts with its annual Art Beat festival from May 8-12. It will be the 14th year that the college will bring visual, performing and literary artists to its campuses, exposing the community to unique visions and creative cultures. Art Beat is free to the public.
