Media Advisory: PCC's Senior Studies Institute to Celebrate Black History

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Community College’s Senior Studies Institute is planning to celebrate Black History Month with a three-part educational series at the Central Portland Workforce Training Center, located at 1626 S.E. Water Ave.On Tuesday, Feb. 6, Portland State University professor Darrell Millner will present, "The Black History in Oregon Prior to World War II."On Tuesday, Feb. 13, Cathy Galbraith, director of the Bosco-Milligan Foundation, will host a slide presentation about historic buildings of the African American community, including residences, churches, social halls and commercial buildings. On Tuesday, Feb. 20, Savon Lindsay, a poet who began writing as a second-grade student, will present, "African American Arts and Literature,"detailing life in the inner city.All of these programs will take place between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. All three programs are free and open to the public of all ages.
