PCC Board Incumbents Win Zone Elections

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Community College’s Board of Directors will have some familiar faces for its session next year following the Tuesday, March 13 special election. Incumbent Dana Anderson (Zone 4 – Inner north/northeast/southeast Portland) defeated Patrick Ferro by a count of 9,663 to 5,559 (63 to 37 percent) and Doreen Margolin won over Louise Weidlich in Zone 5 (southeast Portland/parts of Washington County) by a margin of 12,483 to 2,318 (84 to 16 percent).The closest race was in Zone 6 (Washington County) where incumbent Michael Hereford edged challenger Maureen Breckenridge by a tally of 4,788 to 4,472 (52 to 48 percent). In other zone races that were unopposed, newcomer Bob Palmer garnered 8,762 votes in Zone 3 (southeast Portland) and incumbent Norma Jean Germond tallied 13,438 in Zone 1 (Tigard/Tualatin/Sherwood/parts of Lake Oswego). Palmer is a manager for the Multnomah County Adult Care Program and got his associate’s degree from PCC. He received a bachelor’s degree with a teacher’s certificate from Portland State.PCC is the largest institution of higher learning in the state, serving more than 940,000 residents in a five-county, 1,500-square-mile area in northwest Oregon. The college, which enrolls almost 100,000 students annually, has three comprehensive campuses which provide lower-division college transfer courses, two-year associate degree programs, professional and technical career training. The college’s Open Campus provides job training, adult education and life-long learning, including welfare-to-work and alternative high school programs. PCC offers classes at training centers and approximately 200 other locations throughout the district.
