PORTLAND, Ore. – With the passage of the PCC bond measure in November of 2000, the Portland Community College Board of Directors on Thursday, March 15 is slated to select architectural firms to begin work on the Rock Creek and Sylvania campuses. The selected firms will coordinate with Washington County and the City of Portland on the existing Master Plans and amendments, if necessary, as well as full architectural services for all other phases of renovation and construction. The college issued a request for proposals in November of 2000 and sent documents to more than 40 interested firms. The Rock Creek Campus received 12 proposals for its projects. Ten firms submitted proposals for Sylvania Campus projects. A point system was used to rate the proposals, with the highest scoring firm earning an invitation to interview. Of the $144 million bond measure, the Rock Creek Campus will receive approximately $35 million to build a new library, new science laboratories, and renovate laboratories in many of the professional-technical programs, including diesel, welding and landscape. At Sylvania Campus approximately $42 million is earmarked for a new classroom and distance learning facility, retooled labs in engineering, graphic design, dental, radiography and the sciences. The board meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. in Conference Rooms A and B of the Amo de Bernardis College Center, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave.
