PCC Board of Directors Select Architects For Rock Creek, Sylvania Campuses

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Community College Board of Directors on Thursday, March 15 selected two architectural firms to begin work on the Rock Creek and Sylvania campuses. The firms are Opsis Architecture/Group McKenzie for the Sylvania Campus and Thomas Hacker and Associates will work on the Rock Creek Campus. The Portland-based firms, who were each awarded an approximate $2.2 million, six-year contract, will coordinate with Washington County and the City of Portland on the existing Master Plans, amendments and full architectural services.Opsis Architecture/Group McKenzie is led by the architectural team of James Meyer (principal in charge), Richard Mitchell (project manager) and Alec Holser (project architect and principal designer). Its consultant team consists of Murase Associates (planning and landscape), Group McKenzie Engineering (civil and structural engineering), Manfull Curtis Engineering (mechanical engineering), J.D. Graham (electrical engineering) and Sparling (communications). Recent projects include the law school at the University of Oregon, the technology center at Southern Oregon University and the commons at the University of Idaho. Its consultant team will be Walker Macy (landscape architects), Bookin Group (land use planning and permitting), Harper Houf Righellis (civil engineers), Degenkolb Engineers (structural engineers), PAE Consulting Engineers (mechanical and electrical engineers) and NW Information Services (communications system design). Past projects include the urban center and university plaza at Portland State University, the signature project at Lewis & Clark College and the school of nursing building at OHSU. Their Web site is at: www.thomashacker.com.Of the $144 million bond measure, the Rock Creek Campus will receive approximately $35 million to build a new library, new science laboratories, and renovate laboratories in many of the professional-technical programs, including diesel, welding and landscape. At Sylvania Campus, approximately $42 million is earmarked for a new classroom and distance learning facility, retooled labs in engineering, graphic design, dental, radiography and the sciences.
