ROCK CREEK CAMPUS – Spring is in the air and a new and unique event is set to bloom at Portland Community College’s Rock Creek Campus. The Rock Creek Spring Powwow will run from 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday, April 20 in the gymnasium at the Rock Creek Campus, located at 17705 N.W. Springville Road. The event is free to the public. Students from the Native American Student Association and Associated Students of PCC planned the powwow cooperatively to give the community a celebration that spotlights the Native American culture.Bill Christopher, executive dean at Rock Creek, is scheduled to open the festivities at 5 p.m. and the grand entry is set for 7 p.m. Harold Paul will serve as the master of ceremonies, Craig Whitehead as the arena whipman and the Bow and Arrow Club will provide the drum beats for the five-hour affair. Also on hand will be vendors from around the Northwest selling Native American jewelry, art and food. The Rock Creek Multicultural Committee, ASPCC, and the Native American Student Association are sponsoring the event.
