Photos and Story by

Adults and kids can learn about the Internet together this summer – on the Internet – through Portland Community College’s Community Education Online Learning program. The non-credit class is designed to give teachers, parents and group leaders the confidence they need to help children get the best from Internet access. Step-by-step instructions will allow both adults and kids to discover many kid-friendly Internet features, including web page creation with easy-to-use templates and examples, kid-safe searches, and fun resources for kids. Online activities will introduce the many communication possibilities available to schools, clubs, teacher networks, and extended families. The class includes lessons for the guiding adult, but also features printable instruction sheets that can be used directly with young people. Activities are informative and interactive, and will help students of all ages use the Internet to its fullest potential.Three sessions of the class will be offered this summer. Classes begin monthly, and offer six weeks of web-based instruction via personal computer and over the Internet. This course will be taught online by Katherine Emmons and Christine Gee. Start dates are Wednesdays, June 13, July 11, and Aug. 8. Two lessons are released each week. Students do not have to be present when lessons are released. Tuition for each class is $69.
