PCC Slates Interior Decorating Series

BEAVERTON, Ore. – A seven-part series on interior decorating is being offered this fall by Portland Community College, with something for everyone.Individual sessions in the non-credit Interior Decorating and More series will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 24 through Nov. 5, at Westview High School, 4200 N.W. 185th Ave. Tuition for the entire series is $58. Tuition for individual sessions is $11. The instructor is Carol Pritchard.The series begins Sept. 24 with Principles and Elements of Design. The first session will focus on incorporating lines, space, form, color, balance and proportion into design plans. In the Oct. 1 session, The Language of Color I, participants will learn to select their own color palette and create balance and flow with color. They will also explore the psychology of color, the most critical decorating element.The discussion of color will continue on Oct. 8 during The Language of Color II. Topics include setting the tone and pace of a color plan, designing individual plans, paint preparation and selection, and painting techniques. The series continues Oct. 15 with Identify Your Style. The discussion will center around the difference between trends, fads and traditions, with special emphasis on blending varied styles and tastes.Decorating on a budget will be covered during Improvisation and Compromise on Oct. 22. Participants will learn to use what they have and buy on a budget to make their decorating dollar stretch. The essentials of Accessorizing is the topic of the Oct. 29 session. Tips will be offered on selecting, framing and hanging artwork to create the highest impact. The series concludes Nov. 5 with Holiday Decorating.
