Media Advisory: PCC's Northview Gallery Shows Instructor's Artistic Vision
Photos and story by James Hill
SYLVANIA CAMPUS – Portland Community College’s Northview Gallery is hosting the artwork of Mary Stupp-Greer, visual arts instructor at the Sylvania Campus. The exhibition, titled "Found/Shot/Squashed/Sorted/Down,"is on display Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Friday, Oct. 26 at the gallery, located at 12000 S.W. 49th Ave. Stupp-Greer’s work includes drawings, mixed media collages, photographs and an installation. She says that most of her work in the exhibit was done while on a recent sabbatical and chronicles the processes she used to reconnect with her creative instincts."What I wanted was time to really look at the world around me, pay attention to what caught my eye, and spend time in nature – to stop and be still,"Stupp-Greer said. "Inspiration came from many unusual and predictable sources."Stupp-Greer photographed stains, leaves, discarded and crushed trash and collected things she found while walking to develop her exhibit. There will be an artist’s talk from 3 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27 at the Northview Gallery, followed by a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. For more information about this exhibit, contact Marie Watt, Northview Gallery coordinator, at 503-977-8017.
