PCC Lectures Focus on Anger, Communication, Conflict

PORTLAND, Ore. – A non-credit evening lecture series sponsored this winter by Portland Community College will focus on anger management, conflict resolution and communication skills.The series will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 24 through Feb. 7, in Room 233 at Lincoln High School, 1600 S.W. Salmon St. Tuition is $35 for the entire series or $15 for individual sessions. Mental health counselor Betsey Carillo is the instructor.The series begins Jan. 24 with Understanding Anger. Participants will discover how to recognize the destructive consequences of poorly managed anger – a natural emotion – and learn anger management techniques that can be used daily.What is Communication? is the topic of the Jan. 31 session. The discussion will focus on verbal and non-verbal communication styles, active listening and problem-solving methods useful in avoiding common communication pitfalls.The series concludes Feb. 7 with the Do’s and Don’ts of Conflict.
