BEAVERTON, Ore. – In a marriage of two explosive trends, Portland Community College is offering an introductory non-credit computer course taught in the Spanish language. The Hispanic population in the area is surging, while at the same time, unprecedented demand for computer-savvy workers continues to soar. This class is one of the few opportunities in the area for Spanish-speakers with little or no English skills to gain the training needed to succeed in today’s office environment. Instructor Braulio Garcia will present the class Intro a la Computador (Windows) en Espanol in a supportive environment, also incorporating Spanish written materials. At the conclusion of the course, students will have gained basic skills for operating computers with ease, and be poised to move into higher-level computer courses taught in Spanish, such as Windows Level II and Internet. The five-week introduction course will meet every Saturday from April 13 through May 11 in room 1532 of PCC’s Workforce Training Center at the Capital Center, 18624 N.W. Walker Road. Students can choose to attend either the 9 a.m. to noon or 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. sessions. Cost is $50. For more information, contact Community Education at 503-533-2707.
