Media Advisory: Women in Trades Fair Celebrates 10th Year

WHAT: 10th Annual Women in Trades FairWHEN: Thursday, May 16, middle school day; Friday, May17, high school day; Saturday, May 18, Public career day, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. WHERE: Local 290 Plumbers and Steamfitters Training Center, 20220 S.W. Teton Ave. in Tualatin. WHO: Hosted by the Oregon Tradeswomen Network, a long-time Portland Community College partner helping educate and support women interested in a career in the trades. This year, the PCC Business and Industrial Technology division at the Sylvania Campus is a major sponsor of the fair.DETAILS: On Thursday, May 16, students in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades will participate in hands-on workshops and also view a fun and energetic parade of trade fashions in the Women’s Work Demonstration. Young women and men in high school trades programs, including construction, auto mechanics, woodworking and metals, will lead workshops for the middle school students, along with apprentice and journey-level trades people. Friday, May 17 is reserved for high schoolers. Students will be able to participate in hands-on workshops, gather information from the many exhibits and participate in demonstrations hosted by more than 75 different trades’ employers, apprenticeship training coordinators and community college instructors.
