Photos and story by

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The romance of the English countryside can easily flourish in Oregon gardens, according to Marci Degman, landscape designer. She will show students just how this summer with Cottage and English Garden Design, a Portland Community College non-credit class offered in Forest Grove. This three-part class will explain, step-by-step, the methods of planting colorful rose gardens and perennial borders that so often characterize England. Students will come away equipped to begin this style of garden growing, which is as adaptable to the Northwest climate as it is beautiful. The class will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. each Tuesday, June 25 through July 9, at the Tom McCall Middle School, 1341 Pacific Ave. Cost is $23.
