Resolve Conflict, Achieve Success with Mediation Training
Photos and story by James Hill
PORTLAND, Ore. – How do you handle conflict and keep your cool at the same time? How can you establish a safe environment so that all parties feel free to express their viewpoints without risk of personal attacks? Two non-credit courses offered by Portland Community College will train participants in the techniques of mediation as a solution for resolving conflict and establishing a win-win situation. Professional mediator Tsipora Dimant will teach both classes in convenient, one-day workshop settings, to be held at the Friendly House Community Center, 2617 N.W. Savier. Mediation discusses why this discipline is the single most powerful tool in the alternative dispute resolution movement. Students will learn how to solve seemingly impossible disagreements, find solutions to personality conflicts, and transform negative relationships. The class will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1. Cost is $105. Advanced Mediation Training is designed for those who have mediated at least two cases, or wish to advance their knowledge. Students will practice advanced techniques to work with angry emotions and the unexpected twists that can surprise mediators. The class will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 5. Cost is $35. For more information, contact PCC Community Education at 503-614-7308.
