Spice Up Your Culinary Repertoire at PCC

NEWBERG/TUALATIN, Ore. – From international dishes to home-cooked favorites, Portland Community College will offer the chance to rediscover creativity in the kitchen this fall. Four non-credit courses will help you turn ho-hum dishes into delectable dinners with fun and easy techniques. Simple Comfort Cooking will be led by Jerome Wisniewski, a former restaurant owner and past executive chef for Notre Dame University. Wisniewski will explain how to whip up a delectable Thanksgiving dinner in one hour. Subsequent classes will cover Oktoberfest, Christmas, desserts, soups and comfort classics. The class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 10 through Nov. 14, in Building B at Newberg High School, 1300 Elliott Road. Cost is $48.A Little Taste of Mexico will feature fresh salsas and simple "masa"dishes. Instructor Benjamin Gonzales will teach the class from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 9 through Oct. 16, at the Tualatin YMCA, 8535 S.W. Tualatin Road. Cost is $31. Best Vegetarian Cooking will teach students how to cook delicious and healthy vegetarian dishes with instructor Leela Mangiameli, a lifetime vegetarian. The class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 23 through Nov. 27, at the Tualatin YMCA, 8535 S.W. Tualatin Road. Cost is $52. Simple Italian Food, also taught by Gonzales, will share the secrets of making great homemade pasta and a variety of Italian sauces. The class will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesdays, Sept. 25 through Oct. 2, at the Tualatin YMCA, 8535 S.W. Tualatin Road. Cost is $31.
