Photos and story by James Hill
HILLSBORO, Ore. – An influx of Russian immigrants to the Portland area may have sparked your interest about this ethnicity’s rich history and culture. This fall, Portland Community College will shed light on Russian people and society through its presence on the "big screen." With Russian Culture in Film, a non-credit course, instructor Zoe Boltak will use popular Russian movies to demonstrate the fascinating legends and modern-day customs of Russia. Students will explore all aspects of Russian cultural life including great writers, singers, music, ballet, comedy and art. The course is taught in English, and no knowledge of the Russian language is required. The class will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 23 to Dec. 2, in Room 113 at Glencoe High School, 2700 N.W. Glencoe Road, in Hillsboro. Cost is $75.
