PCC's Small Business International Trade Office Earns Export Achievement Award

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Small Business International Trade Office at Portland Community College recently garnered a national award from the Association of Small Business Development Centers.The U.S. Department of Commerce presented the Commercial Service’s Export Achievement Certificate to the college at the Association of Small Business Development Centers (ASBDC) national conference in late September in Nashville, Tenn. The conference had more than 1,200 attendees, attracting staff from 1,000 small business centers at community colleges around the country."Since 1986, PCC’s Small Business International Trade Office has been working with its partners, the U.S. Export Assistance Center (USEAC) and the International Division of the State of Oregon, to help businesses around the state learn how to do business in the global marketplace,"said Tom Lowles, director of PCC’s Small Business Development Center. "It is very gratifying to see this effort recognized by the U.S. Department of Commerce and we look forward to continuing to work with our partners in this endeavor."Carlos Poza, U.S. Department of Commerce deputy director general, presented the award. This is the second export achievement certificate PCC has received. The USEAC, on behalf of the commerce department, presented the previous award to the college."PCC was awarded a certificate earlier this year for the Study Oregon program,"Lowles added. "Scott Goddin, director of the U.S. Export Assistance Center in Portland noted that PCC is probably the only institution in the U.S. with two awards."PCC’s Small Business International Trade Office is located in Suite 205 at 121 S.W.
