Photos and story by James Hill
ROCK CREEK CAMPUS – Halloween is the time for ghouls and pumpkins. The second annual Harvest Festival at Portland Community College’s Rock Creek Campus may not have the ghouls, but it will have plenty of free pumpkins for local families to pick out. Harvest Festival 2002 is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Rock Creek Campus, located at 17705 N.W. Springville Road. The event will feature entertainment on the campus. There is a suggested donation of $3 per family for entry. The public will be able to pick out free pumpkins, as long as the supply lasts, from the pumpkin patch (more than 1,600 mounds of plants), with the assistance of PCC volunteers. The Scott Brown Fiddlers will play for the public from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the Washington County Historical Museum will be open the entire day for festivalgoers. In addition to the free pumpkins, Harvest Festival 2002 will include hayrides to and from the patch starting at the museum. Also, the festival will feature a petting zoo, PCC plant sale, and much more. For more information, contact Mandy Ellertson at 503-614-7261, or Loretta Dike at 503-614-7442 at the Rock Creek Campus.
