Basic English Composition Class Begins Jan. 7 in St. Helens

ST. HELENS, Ore. – How do you write a persuasive essay? If you’re planning to enter an associate’s degree program or have other educational goals, it’s important to know the answer to this question. This winter, Portland Community College will offer a non-credit class that will help you put pen to paper with confidence. English Composition, taught by Nancy Jarrell, will help students develop skills in analytical reading, critical thinking, and expository and persuasive writing. Students will compose several essays using a variety of strategies to present evidence in support of a thesis. The class will be held from 6:30 to 9:20 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 7 through March 18, at St. Helens High School, 2375 Gable Road. Cost is $147. Before enrolling, students must pass a writing and reading placement test with scores above 44 or WR 115 (tests are available in the PCC St. Helens office).
