Online Class Offers Computer Skills for the Workplace

PORTLAND, Ore. – Today’s employers consider technological literacy critical to the success of any organization. But how can you get the skills you need to succeed if you already have a full-time job and don’t have extra time to attend class? Portland Community College will present an online class covering word processing, spreadsheets, database management and more this February. The online format means students can follow the lessons on their home computer, at their own pace. Computer Skills for the Workplace will teach students to send messages across the country with email; use a spreadsheet to create a graph and paste it in a report; add and edit data in a database; understand the implications of file sizes, memory limitations, and network arrangements; and recognize the function and features of modern computer components. Instructor Dave Paquin, a HR manager and trainer with a master’s degree in technology, will demonstrate how job candidates possessing these skills will stand above those who do not. Students can register by visiting www.ourcoursescome2u.com. The course will be held from Wednesday, Feb. 12 through Friday, March 21. Two lessons are released each week for six weeks, and students have eight weeks to complete the course. Once the lessons are released, students can open the lessons anytime for the duration of the course. Cost is $69. For more information, contact PCC Community Education at 503-731-6619.
