Local Artists Offer Art Making on Saturdays

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. – Spend your Saturdays with a creative artist: You. Portland Community College will offer several workshops to tap your personal creativity this winter. Each non-credit class is led by a local artist and will be held at Marylhurst University, 17600 Pacific Highway.Mixed Media Exploration, led by artist Jan Rimmerman, will present an opportunity to work with both exotic and everyday materials, which will then be adapted to acrylic painting. Students will use powdered charcoal, colored pencil, gels and other unique materials to finish projects. The one-day workshop will meet in Room 103 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1. Cost is $38 and includes supplies. Life Painting, led by artist Tim Tanner, allows artists of all levels to paint the human form by working with a live model. Students will build skills, develop perception and improve personal style, especially when capturing the human likeness. The class will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 100, Saturdays, Feb. 22 through March 1. Cost is $66.With Wire Sculpture, students will learn to create their own 3-D sculpture. Taught by Sonia Kasperian – whose work was recently featured in Portland’s Butters Gallery – this workshop offers the chance to work with an unusual medium. Students will get started by building the armature, then learn the techniques for affixing wires and ties by hand. The one-day workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, March 8 in Room 103 Cost is $38 and includes most materials.
