PCC Hosts Fourth Winter Powwow

SYLVANIA CAMPUS – Portland Community College will host the fourth annual Traditional Winter Powwow on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave. Activities begin at noon with the first grand entry set for 1 p.m. at the gymnasium in the HT Building with festivities scheduled until 11 p.m.The powwow will give people a chance to experience Native American Indian dancing and drumming, arts and crafts, fry bread, and informational exhibits. The second grand entry is at 7 p.m. Admission to the event and parking is free of charge. The powwow will feature Bob Tom as master of ceremonies, Craig Whitehead as whip man, and the Northwest Indian Veterans Association as color guard. Special presentations include a Golden Age Special and Hoop Dancer, and Flor y Canto: Danza Azteca. The powwow came from a desire to offer a community celebration for the Native American community and general public.For vendor information, contact the Sylvania Multicultural Center at 503-977-4112.
