SYLVANIA CAMPUS – New York Times best-selling author Jennifer Lauck will appear at Portland Community College in February.Lauck, author of "Blackbird"and "Still Water,"will be reading from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, in Room 123 of the HT Building at Sylvania, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave. The reading is free and open to the public. Before her reading, she will visit a creative non-fiction writing class to talk to PCC writing students. Last year, Lauck burst onto the literary scene with her New York Times best seller "Blackbird,"which is the recollection of the author’s life, from ages five through 12. In it, she recounts the deterioration of her seemingly ordinary childhood. "We are fortunate indeed to have an author with such a broad following willing to come and work with our own PCC creative non-fiction students, and who will also give her time generously to the PCC community,"said David Stout, division dean of the English and Modern Languages division.Lauck has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Montana State University. She worked in television news for six years, winning two Society of Professional Journalism awards as a reporter and a producer. She later started her own public relations company representing authors and their non-fiction work. She lives in Portland with her husband, Steve and their son, Spencer. For more information, contact David Stout at 503-977-4265.
