Northview Exhibit Explores Levels of Shame

SYLVANIA CAMPUS – The Northview Gallery at Portland Community College will feature an interactive art exhibit that will explore the shame of the Holocaust and incest."Stan Gardner’s Rothenburg: The Shame Bath"will run from Monday, Jan. 13 through Feb. 14. There will be an artists’ talk and gallery reception at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The Northview Gallery is located in the CT Building at the Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave.The exhibit will feature an installation of original work that will include 12 sound stations, which can be activated by the viewer. The exhibit is a traveling exhibition and metaphorical interpretation of an original work, "Schambad,"(The Shame Bath) in Rothenburg, Germany. The soundscapes form a reconstruction of the original bath to give the viewer a sense that they are in a temple, historic monument and European bath. Stan Gardner is the protagonist of the exhibition, an experimental theater sound designer swept into the creation of the original "Schambad."The hours of the gallery are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
