Photos and story by

ROCK CREEK CAMPUS – During the month of February, Portland Community College will explore nature through art.The Rock Creek Gallery is currently featuring Carol Beckerman’s exhibit, titled "Forces of Nature,"until Friday, Feb. 28. The exhibition consists of 80 figure drawings in charcoal and several smaller pastel drawings of plant forms, animals and landscapes. A reception for the artist will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13. The gallery is located in Building 3 of the Rock Creek Campus, 17705 N.W. Springville Road. The two groups of work demonstrate a vital response to the forms of nature. The drawings are lively, decisive and filled with a sense of urgency, says gallery director Mark Andres. Beckerman has exhibited at the Rock Creek Art Gallery twice, in a figure drawing invitational in 1999 and in "Artist’s Models as Artists"in 2000.Beckerman received her bachelor’s degree in art from Queens College in New York City, where she taught ceramics in the extension program. She has been an artist-in-residence for the Oregon Art Commission and has been the facilitator for the weekly life drawing sessions at Portland State University for the last 10 years. Rock Creek Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, visit the gallery’s Web site at: www.spot.pcc.edu/rockcreekgallery.
